General Summary:
Meets laboratory workload demands by performing phlebotomy, clerical tasks, and specimen processing. Prepares specimens for testing and assists with data entry. Tasks require exercise, independent judgment, and following lab policy and procedure.

Schedule: Part-Time 24-32 hours/week - Monday-Saturday

Variable shift

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Receives, logs, handles, processes various body fluids and exudates or scrapings for testing and stores specimens in acceptable manner as defined by specimen storage procedure.
Verifies patient/specimen identification and informs Supervisory personnel and/or Technical personnel of any discrepancies.
Files/scans reports and lab test requests if necessary
Recognizes and processes all \"STAT\" requests according to the lab procedures.
Assists with data entry and checking insurance eligibility as required. Transports specimens to technical areas according to Laboratory policy.
Answers telephone courteously, taking messages or transferring calls, providing information, and reporting and faxing to the appropriate clinical personnel
Adheres and is familiar with laboratory safety standards (OSHA) and utilizes procedure manuals.
Maintains work area in a neat and organized manner; keeps surrounding areas clean and orderly. Appearance and dress need to be neat and acceptable; may be required to wear uniform and special insignia and/or name tag to appropriately convey Clinic identity and to maintain proper public image.
Maintains yearly competency with phlebotomy as well as related job duties.
Performs other related duties as designated

Knowledge of HIPAA.
Lab assistant or equivalent clinical training
National Certification is required.
1 year of clinical experience with phlebotomy or a recent phlebotomy graduate with an externship involving extensive phlebotomy experience.

Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of Laboratory protocol and established professional norms.
Ability to perform standard clinical procedures according to established protocols.
Excellent customer service skills.
Ability to maintain quality, safety, infection control and OSHA standards.
Ability to perform routine phlebotomy in accordance with established clinical protocol
Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.
Knowledge of clinical administrative procedures.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Working Conditions:

Possible intermittent physical activity, including walking, standing, and supporting patients.
Frequent sitting, talking, hearing, occasional standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and lifting (up to 25 lbs.), and the ability to adjust vision for close visualization-oriented tasks.
Work is performed in an indoor environment and with both natural and artificial lighting.
Potential exposure to airborne dust, humidity, and temperature fluctuations.
Exposure to patients in various states of hygiene and emotional condition.
Potential risk of exposure to blood borne and airborne pathogens and bodily fluids.
Potential exposure to communicable virus, disease and infection.
Potential traumatic medical situations or patients experiencing pain or discomfort.
